Stockholm World Water Week

Between 8 and 14 August, key world water experts from 80 countries will gather in Sweden for the 1999 World Water Week in Stockholm.

Among other activities, they’ll address realistic approaches to address these issues at the Stockholm Water Symposium, "Urban Stability Through Integrated Water Related Management." Because of the vital importance of water to life on Earth, you may be interested in these events. Highlights include:

  • The Stockholm Water Symposium, with relevant presentations ranging from water in unstable or war-torn situations, long-term water supply and sanitation, and urban flood mitigation.
  • The Stockholm Water Prize Ceremony, where Swedish King Carl XVI Gustaf will present the $150,000 award to two pioneering aquatic chemists from the USA and Switzerland.
  • The Stockholm Junior Water Prize Ceremony and Contest, where the top water project by a young person will be chosen from among finalists representing Argentina, Australia, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Latvia, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Thailand and the United States. Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden is Patron of the Stockholm Junior Water Prize and presents the $5,000 award and sculpture.
  • An interim presentation on the World Water Vision for the 21st Century, a major effort to provide a framework for achieving safe drinking water and sanitation for all by 2030.

Kemwater is one of the founders of the Stockholm Water Prize and is also local sponsor for the Stockholm Junior Water Prize in Finland and Spain. In connection with the World Water Week in Stockholm, Kemwater organises events for specially invited guests. A joint event for the members of the Stockholm Water Foundation is the Founders’ Seminar, where among other Mr. Kjell Stendahl, Executive Vice President of Kemwater, will be giving a lecture with the title "Chemical treatment as alternative or complement to biological treatment". The seminar has Mr. Nicholas Hood, President of IWSA, as chair, and the opening address will be given by the Stockholm Water Prize Laureate Prof. James J. Morgan.
