ITT Flygt Press Releases, 2000-05-24
ITT Flygt's Sanitaire Corporation plays a major part in US$220 million wastewater treatment plant

The Ringsend Treatment Plant, which is the largest wastewater treatment contract in the history of the Irish State, was recently awarded to the ABA consortium, which consists of the Irish construction firm Ascon Ltd, and Paterson Candy and Anglian Water of the UK. The consortium will be responsible for the design, building and for the first twenty years, the operation of the treatment plant, which will serve the city of Dublin, a population equivalent of 1.7 million.

Sanitaire Corporation, which became a part of ITT Flygt in January 1999, will supply over 100,000 diffusers and 96 large ABJ stainless steal decanters over an eight month period, beginning in April 2001, at a value of over US$12.5 million. The process equipment requires minimum maintenance, and enables plant personnel to observe effluent quality at all times, it also provides emergency overflow control and a uniform rate of discharge.

"This type of order highlights the extra dimension that Sanitaire Corporation has brought to ITT Flygt, as the extension of our core product lines allows us to tender for more projects in the wastewater treatment industry. It also gives the company a leading edge over our competitors as we can now offer complete submersible systems of pumps, mixers and aeration products," says Anders Hallberg, ITT Flygt President.

"The order for the Dublin Bay Ringsend Project follows on from earlier successes won by Sanitaire in Europe. The worlds second largest SBR - Sequential Batch Reactor, is currently being built in Cardiff, Wales, using Sanitaire diffusers and ABJ decanters," comments Jerry Woodhouse, head of European operations for Sanitaire Corporation.

He continues, "our SBR projects are not just of interest from a technology standpoint. A number of our European SBR projects have involved Sanitaire as a lead technology designer, delivering design services from the initial concept stage onwards. In addition, many of our schemes are executed on a partnering basis, contributing to long business relationships that benefit both our customers and Sanitaire."

The facility, which is being financed through a combination of Irish Exchequer funds and EU Cohesion, and is scheduled to begin operation in June 2002, is part of the US$340 million Dublin Bay Project, an engineering an environmental project undertaken to tackle Dublin's sewage disposal needs.
