Press release from Anglian Water, part of the AWG Plc group
Best ever water quality on tap

07/07/2004

Tap water in the Anglian Water region is the best it has ever been, according to the Drinking Water Inspectorate’s Annual Report launched today.

Last year 99.7 per cent of the of 235,570 tests carried out on the water supplied to customers’ taps passed all the national and European Union standards

Clive Harward, Head of Water Quality for Anglian Water, said: “We watch over our water treatment processes 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to make sure that the water our customers drink continues to meet the highest standards. The quality of tap water will always remain a top priority.

“ We will also continue to work closely with the DWI and environmental interest groups to ensure that the quality of water resources and local habitats are protected for the future. Considerable work has gone into creating a sustainable plan which strikes a balance between maintaining our infrastructure, coping with the region’s growing population and improving the environment, while minimising increases in customers’ bills.”

John Gray, Principal Inspector for the Drinking Water Inspectorate (DWI) in the East of England, said: “ Anglian Water’s results are a statistically significant above-average achievement and investment has already been made to ensure compliance with even stricter regulations that came into force in January 2004. This shows that the work carried out by the Drinking Water Inspectorate and Anglian Water is paying off.

“We often take the high quality of our tap water for granted but it is important we remain committed to the cause of improving and maintaining the standards for future generations.”
