Santiago becomes Anglian Water’s South American Head Office

As the British water industry continues to be targeted by international investors, Anglian Water (now part of awg plc) is taking it’s next leap forward into the international market.

Having worked in the region for many years, Anglian Water has officially announced that Santiago, the capital of Chile, will become it’s South American Head Office.

Purac, the process engineering arm of awg plc, has also moved it’s regional office to Santiago to bring the group’s expertise together in one location. Working from the new office, will be the newly appointed Regional Director for South America, Kevin Starling, whose previous position was Director of Customer Services for Anglian Water in the United Kingdom.

In April 1999, Anglian Water and Enersis formed a joint venture company, Aguas Puerto, which took a stake in Chile’s second largest water company, Esval. In August 2000, Anglian Water bought the complete shareholding of Enersis to gain a majority shareholding in Esval and acquire, by agreement with CORFU, the rights as operator of the company. Esval was the first water and wastewater company to be privatised in Chile and serves a 1.3 million population in a region that is a major tourist destination.

In the region, the group is currently working in Antarctica, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, the Falklands and South Georgia.

Tony Eckford, Managing Director Anglian Water International said; “This has been our most successful year to date. We’ve enjoyed successes in China, Chile, Thailand, Norway, Ireland, Australia and the Czech Republic. Opening this regional office in Santiago is a clear indication that we intend to go on winning contracts.
