Anglian Water wins contract in China

Anglian Water has won an important contract to buy, extend and operate a major water treatment plant in Hexian, China.

Hexian is located in the east of Anhui Province, China, and as well as being in a major vegetable growing area, is home to some of China’s major companies.

The water supply is currently unsuitable for domestic consumption by the population of 630,000. Anglian Water’s expertise will help to provide clean drinking water for both domestic customers and local industry.

A 20 year joint venture contract was signed with the Hexian Water Company and upon completion, the extended plant will be able to supply drinking water to neighbouring towns and cities.

Commenting on the contract success Tony Eckford, managing director of Anglian Water International, said: “This is an extremely exciting time for the Anglian Water group as we will make a major difference to people’s lives in Hexian, by providing access to clean, high quality drinking water. I’m very proud that our expertise has been recognised.

“Our international success is gathering pace and only last week, we announced another contract win in Beroun, Czech Republic at the same time that we opened our Prague office as our Central European Headquarters. In the Czech Republic alone, Anglian Water now serves more than ten percent of the population.

“Although we’ve won almost 30 contract’s in China, this is Anglian Water’s first operational contract in this competitive market - hopefully the first of many. Winning the Hexian contract helps confirm our reputation as one of the best water companies in the world.”

The Anglian Water group is currently operating in more than 50 countries world-wide.

Anglian Water’s position as the lowest water leakage company in the United Kingdom, has helped win major leakage contracts in Dublin, Ireland and Bangkok, Thailand.
