Anglian Water
Date: 06/07/1999 News Release
Come on in, the water's lovely!

With the start of the school summer holidays in view, Anglian Water has confirmed that customers in the east of England will enjoy even cleaner bathing waters and beaches this year.

Recent surveys undertaken by Tidy Britain Group and Anglian Water have shown a dramatic improvement in sewage litter on the region’s beaches, with a reduction of 76 per cent since 1992.

“Cleaner beaches and bathing waters are a direct result of all the investment we have made in new pipes and improved treatment processes along the coast,” said Roy Pointer, managing director of Anglian Water.

“For the past two years, all the bathing waters which we are responsible for, have passed European quality standards. We are the only water company to achieve this success - and we are building on our efforts with a commitment to even higher standards over the next few years. We are determined to see Blue Flag quality water at all the region’s resorts and will continue to work with local councils and environmental groups to further reduce pollution.” he said.

A programme of work for additional improvements to sewers and sewage treatment works continues throughout the summer with projects underway at Southend, Clacton, Jaywick, Gt Yarmouth, Cromer and Ingoldmells.
