The Government will set up an Advisory Committee on the Quality of Water Supplies on April 1, 2000 to advise on matters relating to the quality of water supplies.
The Secretary for Works, Mr. LEE Shing-see, has appointed Mr. Kenneth FANG as the Chairman of
the Advisory Committee. Mr. FANG is the Chairman of the Hong Kong Productivity Council and has active participation and extensive experience in community services.
Supported by the Director of Water Supplies, Mr. Hugh PHILLIPSON, as the Vice-chairman, Mr.
FANG will head the Advisory Committee with 15 members to offer advice to the Government for a
high quality of water supplies in Hong Kong.
"We aim to promote transparency and encourage extensive public participation in the monitoring
of the quality of water supplies in Hong Kong, the Advisory Committee on the Quality of Water
Supplies will therefore be set up with representatives from the academics, professionals, local districts, green groups and government departments," Mr. LEE said today (March 31).
"The Advisory Committee will also help strengthen the monitoring of water quality through
public participation and regular dissemination of information to the public. It will continue
to enhance the quality of water supplies for meeting the changing needs of the community," Mr.
LEE said.
