Vivendi Environnement wins 18.5 million euros contract with Borregaard Industries Ltd. in Norway

Krüger, Danish subsidiary of Vivendi Water Systems, has won a turnkey contract worth 18.5 million euros to install water treatment in the Borregaard Industries main plant at Sarpsborg in Norway. Borregaard Industries is one of the country's largest chemicals companies.

The contract includes the design and installation of water treatment for all of the production units in the industrial complex. The production sectors involved are cellulose and pharmaceutical products, chemicals and additives for the food industry.

Vivendi Water Systems will install a new water supply system using its patented Actiflo™ process*, which is compact and very efficient. The system will supply three types of water: - 5,000 cubic meters/hour of cooling water;
- 4,000 cubic meters/hour of process water;
- 500 cubic meters /hour of drinking water.

A solution that exceeds the customer's requirements

Borregaard Industries' original specifications called for the water treatment facilities to be built at the top of the site, which would have required a complex foundation system and located it near sensitive technical installations.
With the new Actiflo™ process, Krüger was able to submit a safer and more cost-effective solution. One of the advantages of Actiflo™ is that it is a compact process, which means it can be built in a smaller area.

Ultramodern technology
The Borregaard complex's water comes from the River Glomma, which is subject to severe drops in temperature and a considerable increase in water turbidity. Actiflo™ is a physical-chemical process that is particularly efficient in countries like Canada, for example, where there are similar weather conditions.
The reliability of the Actiflo™ process was one of the key decision criteria in securing the contract for the Borregaard complex, which depends heavily on its water supply.
* Actiflo™ is a physical-chemical process that combines weighted flocculation and lamellar settling.

Krüger is specialized in municipal and industrial water and wastewater treatment and manages the parent company Vivendi Water Systems activities in Scandinavia, Poland, the Baltic Countries and Greece.

Vivendi Water, a subsidiary of Vivendi Environnement, is the leading global provider of water and wastewater services for municipal authorities, industrial companies and consumers. The company provides the entire range of outsourcing and design-build services, as well as equipment and systems.

With operations in more than 100 countries, Vivendi Water serves over 110 million consumers and 40,000 industrial customers worldwide. It has revenues of 12.9 billion euros for 2000 and 69,000 employees.
