Vivendi Environnement develops its business activities in Jordan

Vivendi Environnement develops its business activities in the Jordanian cities of Ramtha and Salt with wastewater treatment, water reuse and drinking water microfiltration treatment plants.

  • Vivendi Water wins a 9,5 million euros contract for a wastewater plant extension and water reuse unit in Jordan

Vivendi Water Systems, a Vivendi Environnement subsidiary, has been awarded a contract worth 9.5 million euros by the Jordan Water Authority to upgrade and extend the Ramtha wastewater treatment plant.

The project, which will be partially financed by the French State, was won by a consortium led by Vivendi Water Systems and a local civil engineering firm, El Concorde. The plant will enable to treat all wastewater generated by the 70,000 inhabitants expected by 2005 in Ramtha (90 kilometers north of the Jordanian capital, Amman).

The plant, initially built in the late 1980's, will then treat 5,400 cubic meters of wastewater a day. The treatment will consist of pre-treatment, biological treatment to remove carbon and nitrate pollution as well as phosphorus, and tertiary sand filters treatment to remove algae and parasites.

As Jordan suffers from severe water shortages, the Vivendi Water Systems project features water re-use. As the region is seeking to increase its agricultural activity, the treated water will be disinfected and used to irrigate nearby market gardens. The Ramtha plant will therefore contribute to the development of the local economy.

  • First microfiltration plant in the Middle East begins operation in Salt

USFilter, a Vivendi Water American subsidiary, launched the first microfiltration water treatment plant in the Middle East in Salt. The facility features USFilter's MemcorŽ Continuous Microfiltration (CMF) membrane system which purifies water by removing bacteria for the city's 127,500 citizens.
This facility upgrade, worth 1.15 million euros, was funded by the USAID (United States Agency for International Development).

Vivendi Water Systems, a subsidiary of the Vivendi Environnement group, is the global leader in water and wastewater treatment. The company brings together leading technological expertise and a complete range of water treatment products and services for its Industrial and municipal customers.

With operations in more than 100 countries, Vivendi Water serves over 110 million consumers and 40,000 industrial customers worldwide. It has revenues of 12.9 billion euros for 2000 and 69,000 employees. Press contacts :
