Major success for Vivendi Environnement in Italy

The consortium led by Vivendi Water has been named successful bidder by the Ambito Territoriale Ottimale (ATO) of Latina, in the international tender for the municipal outsourcing contract to manage the area's water and wastewater services for 30 years.

The ATO of Latina is located in the south of Rome and covers 38 districts with a population of about 600,000 inhabitants. During the summer, the population increases by around 500,000 visitors.

The main partners in the consortium led by Vivendi Water (40%) are ENEL-Hydro (23%), a subsidiary of the principal power production and distribution company in Italy, and Acquedotto Pugliese (23%) which is the country's biggest water distribution company, serving five million people.

The consortium and local authority will create a joint-venture company to operate all of the water services. This company will be managed by Vivendi Water.

Total revenues of the contract amount to two billion euros over the 30 year period. Annual revenues are forecast at 50 million euros for the first year, and 65 million euros when the facilities reach their normal operating capacity. The project covers completing work to supply the population with drinking water, improving the safety of the water supply, completing the wastewater collection systems and increasing the capacity for wastewater treatment.

The Latina contract is the biggest municipal outsourcing contract ever awarded in Italy following an international tender, and consolidates Vivendi Water's presence in that market.

Vivendi Water provides water and wastewater services to almost 1.7 million people in Italy, in particular in the regions of Veneto, Piemont and Liguria. The company operates through 10 companies, primarily SIEMEC, SICEA, SAP and SVA.

Vivendi Water, a subsidiary of Vivendi Environnement, is the leading global provider of water and wastewater services for municipal authorities, industrial companies and consumers. The company provides the entire range of outsourcing and design-build services, as well as equipment and systems.
With operations in more than 100 countries, Vivendi Water serves over 110 million consumers and 40,000 industrial customers worldwide. It has revenues of 12.9 billion euros for 2000 and 69,000 employees.
