June 21st, 2001 - Vivendi Water, a Vivendi Environnement subsidiary, has won the first ever contract for outsourcing services in water and wastewater to be awarded in Sweden. The contract, won as part of an international invitation to tender, is for the town of Norrtälje.
Norrtälje is the first community in Sweden to choose the outsourcing solution to manage its municipal water and wastewater services, including storm water. The town has a population of 50,000 and is located close to Stockholm. The management contract is for 10 years and does not call for any capital investment by Vivendi Water. It represents a total revenue of 25 million euros.
Over and beyond its professionalism and know-how as a water services operator, Vivendi Water displayed a real partnership approach with the municipality. The company was also able to satisfy requirements in terms of environmental protection, labor relations and cultural flexibility. This was helped by Vivendi Environnement's successful experiences in Sweden.
Vivendi Environnement has been operating in Sweden for several years through Dalkia Facilities Management AB, Connex which operates the Stockholm metro and the Sundsvall bus network, and Onyx, the leader in waste processing in Scandinavia. This latest water services contract demonstrates the synergies set in place between Vivendi Water and the other Vivendi Environnement companies in Sweden.
