Vivendi Water wins first contract in Thailand

The Group wins management of water and wastewater services for five industrial estates located near Bangkok

Following an international call for tender launched by the Thai Ministry of Industry, Vivendi Water signed its first contract in Thailand today.
The five-year contract covers the management of water and wastewater services for five industrial estates (Bang Shan, Lad Krabang, Bang Plee, Laem Chabang, and Map Ta Phut) in the outskirts of Bangkok. The contract, worth 110 million euros, was won in partnership with the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand.

The contract consists in:

  • management of drinking water distribution networks
  • collection and treatment of wastewater
  • customer service.

Vivendi Water will provide these services for all five major industrial sites, which include over 400 industries of all sectors (pharmaceutical, petrochemical, etc…).
The group will treat over 90,000 cubic meters of water a day, which is the equivalent of the needs of a medium-size town in France.

This first contract in Thailand illustrates the group's determination to strengthen its presence in Asia. Vivendi Water has been operating in China, Malaysia, the Philippines and South Korea for more than 20 years and has built over 35 water treatment facilities. In March, Vivendi Water won a major industrial outsourcing contract in South Korea. This 20 year contract awarded by Hyundai Petrochemical is worth a total of 1 billion euros.

Asia is a strategic region for Vivendi Water's international development.
In awarding this contract to the group, the Thai government has confirmed its intention of opening up such services to the private sector.
Vivendi Water's move into Thailand is in line with Vivendi Environnement's strategy of offering multi-services. With other Vivendi Environnement businesses already operating in the region, it offers growth prospects to the world leader in environmental services.

Vivendi Water, a Vivendi Environnement subsidiary, consolidates all the activities of Générale des Eaux and USFilter. Vivendi Water is world leader in water services, serving more than 100 million customers in over 100 countries, and employing 70,000 people. In 1999, Vivendi Water generated net revenues of 12 billion euros.
