Lahmeyer International, based in Bad Vilbel, Germany, is the world's number one hydropower plant designer. This top position in the ranking was confirmed by the internationally well-known, leading technical magazine Engineering News Record (ENR) in its Global Construction Sourcebook 1999.
At the present time Lahmeyer International is preparing plans and studies for hydropower plants worldwide, with a total installed capacity of more than 17,000 MW. This represents an investment volume of around DM 50 bn based on the realization of all projects. Current major projects are the Goldistal 1,000 MW pumped storage plant in Thuringia, and in Iran the Masjed-e-Soleiman run-of-river and the Shahid hydropower plants; each has an installed capacity of 1,000 MW.
