EPCOR lifts water use restrictions – thanks customers for help

Edmonton, Alberta -Thanks to the outstanding support of residents in Edmonton and 40 surrounding communities, EPCOR announced that water reservoir levels have risen from a low of 18 per cent on Friday to 32 per cent of capacity and rising as of Monday morning. Because of this, demand management measures put in place over the weekend have been cancelled.

"Our customers have been extremely supportive whenever we have asked for help and they came through again over the weekend," said Allan Davies, President of EPCOR Water Services. "We would like to thank everyone for their participation."

Reservoir Storage Levels (10 day forecast from current)

Over the weekend, demand for water reached 324 million litres per day. This is down dramatically from levels EPCOR has seen in past years, which have been as high as 555 million litres on hot, dry days.

Cleaner river water also helped the situation because water treatment plants were able to increase water production from a low of 317 million litres per day on Friday up to 375 million litres per day on Monday.

Although the situation is no longer urgent, water is a valuable resource and everyone is being encouraged to use it wisely. For example:

  • Water your lawn once every 4-6 days (less if it rains) for no more than 45 min.
  • Clean your driveway and sidewalk using a broom rather than a hose
  • Wash only full loads of dishes or laundry.
  • Regularly check toilets, pipes and faucets for leaks.
