Water Inspector Scam

EDMONTON - The Economic Crime Section of the Edmonton Police Service has issued a news release, which identifies that someone is posing as a water inspector to gain access to homes. Once inside, they steal money, wallets, and other small valuables while the homeowner is distracted.

EPCOR Water only sends employees to customer residences in the following circumstances:

  • If EPCOR has identified a problem such as unusually high consumption which could indicate a leak,
  • At the customer’s request, or
  • To read a customer’s water meter.

EPCOR employees have EPCOR identification and wear EPCOR clothing or a uniform. Customers are encouraged to ask EPCOR employees to present company identification.

EPCOR is an Alberta-based company with $2.8 billion in assets. EPCOR owns power plants in Alberta, British Columbia and the Pacific Northwest and has approximately 2000MW of capacity either in operation or under development.
